35 week ultrasound and appointment

We went yesterday for what may be our last ultrasound! That's fun to think of. I jump at any chance I have to see her, but she's so big now that we can't tell her face from her abdomen anymore. Everything looks great - she's very healthy, and the fluid level has gone down tremendously!

I get 3 different e-newsletters every new week of development. I always look forward to Tuesdays when I get my new fun facts about Hazel and the pregnancy. One of them said this today:

"Your baby weighs about 5.5 pounds..."

Ha! Try 6 lbs, 12 oz. Yes, 6 lbs 12 oz already, if the scan was accurate. Oh.my.goodness. Please Lord let her come early. Actually, like I've been saying, they are always amazed at my large baby. Once again, the technician asked me, "Is there any chance you are diabetic?" Because of her size, the machine estimates her due date to be November 18! I would be completely happy with that, but I've been warned by my mother-in-law that that probably won't happen. She had big babies, and they didn't come early. I jokingly told a single friend of mine last week that when she meets a potential spouse, an important question to ask is, "How much did you weigh at birth?" (obviously this is a joke! I love my husband and have never regretted marrying him, even if he does give me big babies :)

So the rest of the newsletter said this: "...and will continue to gain about half a pound per week until you deliver. [that puts her at 9lbs4oz for those who were curious] She stretches out to 20.25 inches as it approaches full term. Stem cells in the bone marrow continue to produce red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets to maintain a healthy immune system, but there is not really any development remaining for arms, legs, brain or organs. Your baby will simply continue to grow in size as it readies for its big debut."

So Hazel's pretty much fully developed! How fun is that? Hurry up and get here, girl!

For any mommy readers out there, were the ultrasound weight estimates right or wrong for you?

Honey,
The ultrasounds they did when I was pregnant did not give the weight. They went instead by the head size which was pretty accurate. It will be fine though because God knows what is best and all works out. You will be amazed. So sorry, the large babies come from my dads side but remember I had no problems, and very quick deliverie.

Love,
Judy

My boss's wife had big babies... and her thought is "Big babies look cuter and healthier at birth"...it's true! My nephew was a tad over 9lbs and was ADORABLE right from birth whereas my nieces were 7lbers and took about month or so to chunk up enough to have that squishy cuddly baby look to them...
No matter when she comes or what she weighs you'll think she's the best thing ever! (or so I've heard that about motherhood:)
I'm excited FOR you that it's so close (give or take a week or two!)

Micah was a little above average- 8lbs 6oz, but all the tests said he was "very average." So, who knows how accurate they really are. Big or small, she'll be beautiful, I just know it!

well..boston's estimate was 6lbs, and he weighed 6 lbs. olivia's estimate was 6 lbs., and she weighed 4 1/2 lbs. don't worry about a big baby. i think they sleep through the night faster than little babies. your brother was a big baby!!! i think it runs on both sides of the family.

The day I went into labor with Shanti (about a week before my due date) I had an ultrasound that said she would be 8lbs 5oz. As I was laboring, my doctor said she was going to be 9 lbs. I wanted to tell her to go away! :) Shanti ended up weighing right at 8lbs and it all worked out wonderfully, as I'm sure it will for you (even though it sounds scary to deliver a "big" baby) :)

Neither of my two doctors would estimate weights - they said it's just not possible. My second Dr did ask ME if I thought my second was bigger or smaller than the first. I KNEW he was bigger and boy he was - a 10 pounder. But that's still not as big as my little sis weighing in at 12 3oz - yes she was a vag! I got big ones in my family as well :-)

Remember that ultrasounds are just "guesstimates". If she is 8lbs., then she would be an average American baby. They are just not use to babies being that size where you are. I wish I could be there while you are having her. Just try to remember what you have learned and read. Do not let your imagination run away with you.

Love you.

don't worry about it. part of the reason she'll gain half a pound a week is because her bones are getting denser. heavier doesn't necessarily mean bigger. halle was 7 lbs 2oz and 21 inches long and i had her two weeks early. you can always do what i did and drink castor oil if you want her to come early!!!! just kidding don't do that :)
