lucky hazel!
Most people here believe that when a woman gives birth, she and the baby must stay indoors completely for 6 weeks. I'm pretty sure I'll be risking the occasional scolding from strangers to go out some. But there is at least one really cool post partum custom I am gladly taking part in...the post partum massage! 
For those 6 weeks, a masseuse is supposed to come daily to massage the mother and the baby. Jaya totally hooked me up with this! Although I'm having her come every other day for a month instead. But it's great! And because this is India, it's super cheap! I must say, though, that Hazel did not enjoy her massage like I did. 
Getting her first massage at 4 days old...she doesn't realize how lucky she is, does she?

Woohoo! Even though its not a strict tradition to get a massage everyday after birth here, it's still part of post-partum care. My best local friend here has told me, "Don't worry Sharon, I will come and give you massage afterwards so you can relax...don't worry." Can't wait! We'll see if the tradition carries over into infant massage, but as far as I know, it's just gonna be me getting the benefits.

haha! That's great! So where are the pics of your massage :) haha!
That settles it. I'm having my next baby there. No kidding, that is the single best thing I've ever heard of. And I bet it makes good, practical sense, medically speaking, too. I remember getting strict directions about working out post partum due to all my "re-settling and loose joints."
Now, that's a custom I can get on board with :)
I'm just getting news of baby Hazel's arrival! I am so excited for you and James! I love seeing the pics, she is so beautiful. I am quite jealous of these massages. Sorry it has taken me so long to say Congrats!! (I decided to get really sick) I am going home in 5 days for Christmas!!
