this is a bit late...

I'm a week late blogging this, but Hazel is now 4 months old! Here are some recent pics of our 4 month old baby girl.

She is happiest when she's standing. I really need to get a video of it, because usually her demeanor is hilarious. It's like her body language is saying, "Yes of course I can stand. I'm super baby."

In another dress from Aunt Sarah, with a matching bow from Aunt Christi, and a little cover up from Thailand. (Hazel's Easter dress was from Sarah too, and I mistakenly said it was from Ashley, who sent a different dress!)

I usually don't like to take b&w photos of her because I hate to miss capturing the blue of her eyes. But she's pretty darn cute in any color (or lack thereof) don't you agree? :)
And finally, I shouldn't blog without putting up a shot of a Hazelnut face:

I am SO excited - I found our photos from Holi that I thought were lost. So I'm gonna put those up really soon...

rolling over

It's not the best quality video - I took it with our digital camera. But here's a short little clip of Hazelnut rolling over. It cracks me up every time I watch it. :)

hazel's trip to thailand

Okay finally, here are some pictures from the Thailand trip. Hazel really enjoyed it - I think she liked the warm weather. I know we did, too! When we left India, it was still cold. Now it's in the 90s!
She grew up a lot while we were there, it seems. When we left, she could still fit in her footed 0-3 months pj's, but not anymore. Also, we were able to finally break the swaddle habit! That was a huge milestone for us, because it was part of the napping problem - she was too strong for the swaddle, but if her arms came out, she'd cry. Now she's fine with them being out, and takes long naps!:

Every time we stepped outside, she was fascinated. Especially on the road. I took her a few times on morning walks to Starbucks, and she loved it. She's getting to where she recognizes that the Snugli = fun walks. I'm trying to do my best Hazel impersonation!

In the Night Market:

This picture makes me laugh for some reason. We sat down for dinner, and she couldn't take her eyes off the action of the night market. I just love her profile with the turned up nose and chubby cheeks.

We discovered a trick when taking her to restaurants. She's so happy if we just lay her down in a seat, and she can stare and kick around. There was some funny green lighting in this place.

In the Sunday market, helping Daddy order some pad thai. James is a good sport with me when I make him take staged pictures. :)

Another picture of us on the road. She loved riding in the tuk tuks! (we don't have a car, so we don't have any way to strap her in a car seat when we travel. No mean tongue-lashings please, we don't really have an option):

The super nursing dad! Going above and beyond what most dads are physically capable of! James actually has this uncanny ability to get Hazel to fall asleep, but his trick is covering her face. It always looks like he's nursing, so I had to get a picture.

Like I said, it was warm, so she got to hang out in onesies. This one is a new one from Lindsey who used to live in India with us. Isn't that sweet?:
I just loved seeing her in onesies, and watch her kick her chubby little legs!

And finally, she has this new thing. She is always wanting to stand! And the look on her face when she is standing cracks me up. It's a mixture of pride and happiness: I'm pretty sure she thinks she's older than she is.

My little Hazelnut!

collage happy

I love making collages! We're back from Thailand, and I've got lots of pics to post of Hazel. But I'm a little behind a few things, so I decided some collages fit the bill.

First, Hazel is getting strong on her tummy. Don't get me wrong, as the first collage shows, she still is not a fan of tummy time, but she's so darn cute even when she's screaming her head off! She can now roll over onto her back! So tummy time is working.

Since there is no February 30th, she technically didn't turn 3 months old. So it literally snuck up on us! She's no longer a newborn, which shows in her clothes, her strength, her attitudes, and in so many other ways. Here's a collage of some really cute pics of her from the last month.

She is such a fun baby!!

2 months!

In January, Hazel had a few firsts and milestones! She started smiling, cooing, grasping, and holding her head steady! She also had several special moments, including her first time to church, first trip, and becoming an American citizen.

Hazel gained 1 lb, 7 oz. She's now 10 lbs, 12 oz, which means she's finally grown larger than her daddy's birth weight, but hasn't quite reached her Uncle Stephen's birth weight of 11 lbs, 9 oz. He was a chunk, and Nana was a champ!!

hazel's first trip!

First passport at 5 weeks old, first international trip at 7 weeks old! She slept pretty much the whole flight (not that it was a long one...a little over 2 hours).

Here's the little traveler all bundled up, ready to face the cold weather in Kathmandu, Nepal.

And then every time we ventured out, she promptly fell asleep! Here we are shopping in their very hippie-ish market.

We met these shopkeepers through an American friend. The younger one, had us sit and drink tea with them as we shopped. The older man just smiled and laughed the whole time, and Hazel slept some more.

So the last day, when we realized she wasn't going to stay awake outside, we each took a picture with her in the hotel room to prove she was actually in Nepal.
Something really funny to us is how common it is for complete strangers to come up to us, squeeze on her face, and ask to hold her. Sometimes, people will just walk up, squeeze her cheeks, and walk off! It's the funniest thing. It's been mainly Asians - Indians love babies. (I guess they'd have to - there are a billion of them! :) And some Japanese grandmas on the flight with us could not get enough of her. They kept covering her head with the blanket, told me she was hungry, giggled over her, kept asking to peek at her through the sling, and oohed and ahhed. It was so sweet.

proud to be an american

Hazel is now an American citizen! She can never be President, but has all the other rights of our great 'home'land. (of course our true home is in heaven...we pray she'll choose to be a citizen of there too!)

It took a few steps to reach this point:
1. Receive an unofficial birth certificate from the hospital.
2. Take the unofficial certificate to the city government to receive an official one. (it's in Hindi and English! She's a cool baby)
3. At the appointed time, take the passport photo, official birth certificate, prenatal records (to prove I was pregnant), passport application, baby, and both parents to the Embassy.
4. Receive another birth certificate, this one from the Embassy for her birth abroad.
5. Pick up the passport a week later!

This doesn't include all the photo labs we went to trying to get an acceptable picture. My passport photo is pretty unflattering, and so it seems is Hazel's. Funny story about her face in this pic - she laid on the table to take the picture. There were several men standing around and watching, and right when they shot her photo, she let out a very loud toot! The room erupted in laughter, and the photographer said, "Oh, very good." So apparently, this is her gassy face.

december

My super sweet friend, Alison from Alabama by way of Africa, sent me this really cool calender. It's a do-it-yourself calender for the first year of your baby's life! She knows how much I love to scrapbook, and realized correctly this was the perfect way for me to create a baby book for Hazel. It came with stickers for "First Hair Cut," "First Trip," etc, and also each month you update the stats as well as new things the baby can do. So here is December 2007 in the life of Hazel. Did y'all realize she already passed her first month of life? More importantly, she survived a month of inexperienced parenting. :)
This has her birthday, the day we came home from the hospital, her first bath, a special visitor (Mimi of course :), her first Christmas, and her one month mark.
I am also working on her scrapbook, but that will be a little different than a baby book, because if I can refrain myself from doing every little 'first' of hers, I'm going to make it a scrapbook of her childhood/adolescence as a gift for her.
