color blind
One of the fun things about Hazel spending her first 6 months in India is that she gets to have lots of Indian friends! I always wonder if she notices the differences in looks between her parents and most of the people around us. Maybe one of the many reasons Jesus said we should be like the children is because babies are color blind when it comes to skin.
Hazel with one of her biggest fans, Jaya.
This is D*, one of the ladies from our prenatal class. Hazel and I went to her house last week to visit with her and her baby boy.
Hazel and Abir. He's 5 weeks younger than her, and much sleepier than her!
Our landlord had been dying to meet Hazel!

What an interesting insight - about babies being color blind. Although sometimes Indian babies are scared of me because I'm white - ha! Great pics of pretty Hazel and her beautiful friends :)
(And, no...I don't wear saris everyday, but I wear them out to the village and try to wear them 3 times a week for several reasons - one, Lee likes saris and I feel pretty in them; two, it's more appropriate in our city for married women with children to wear them; three, I think it's more modest in our city than just a salwar.)
yay! How fun! She has lots of fans :)
Look at Hazel showing some leg! :) She's getting so big!
Hazel has some skinny little legs like her Mamma! I had rolls and rolls and rolls when I was that age. Go figure...
yay for brown friends!
I keep having to remind myself that Isaac has never been to the US...that he looks very American but all he'll know until he's almost 18months old is that most people are brown...and its normal and awesome!!! (of course when he gets back to the US he might not like that he has to share the spotlight with OTHER lighter skinned babies and that he's no longer a novelty!! HA! We'll see...)
Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight........
I always felt like you and your brother got a great multi-cultural education while going to school. You learned to accept people for who they were and not the color of their skin. It has served both of you well.
Ha! Abir looks like a little brown Elvis! How cute! Isn't it great that Hazel has so many friends?
